The title reflects the dual meaning of adventure in Chinese, referring both to a journey filled with wonder and to the risks one must take when facing fear. While the illustrated story presents a romanticized version of adventure, the real world reveals its more unsettling side.
The contrast is reinforced visually through the use of black and white tones in the real-world scenes, creating a stark emotional impact. This choice reflects the psychological pressure created by oppressive educational environments and the lasting fear they may leave in a child’s mind.
